BOATERS FOR BOOKS UPDATE

April 13, 2008

Volunteer Edie Smith from Sarasota just returned from a ten day Caribbean cruise, one port of call being Grenada. Edie’s friend Cecil Edwards, formerly of government there, met them at the ship and escorted them to St. Andrews Anglican Primary School, one of our school recipients for donated books.

In Edie’s words, “I spent 2 hours with many of the students and teachers. The principal has a ROOM FULL of computers that would not work and now they have to get rid of them. He doesn’t want any more hand-me-down computers and I don’t blame him.”

Edie further reports that “the library is small but all were MOST appreciative of the books Boaters for Books had sent.” St. Andrews Anglican is one of several schools severely damaged during hurricane Ivan in 2004. They were recipients of several of the more than 170 cases of books sent to Grenada in 2006.

Here are some photos taken by Edie at St. Andrews. We thought you might want to see our “kids” up close. And their dedicated teachers!!
