June 30, 2007, Punta Gorda, Florida. With the participation of many hearts and hands, we sorted, packed and shipped another year’s worth of donated books in late April. This year’s assortment went to several islands.
Here is a list of this year’s recipients, most of whom receive books from us each year.
On the island of Carriacou:
Hillsboro and Dover Primary Schools, L’Esterre and Harvey Vale Primary schools, Mt. Pleasant Primary, Hillsboro Secondary School and Bishop’s College. We added a new recipient this year on Carriacou, the T.A. Maryshow Community College.
In St. Vincent and the Grenadines:
Bequia High School and the primary school on little Mayreau, which lies between Union Island and the Tobago Cays, for those of you who have cruised the area.
On the island of Dominica:
Rouseau SDA Primary and Savanne Paille Government Schools, Portsmouth SDA Secondary School, Temple SDA Primary and Wesley Government Schools and Petit Soufrere Primary School.
BFB directors Melodye and John Pompa cruise the Eastern Caribbean on their sailboat during the winter months (they summer anchored in Carriacou). They are able to evaluate our efforts first hand. They have compiled a wish list (put link here) of books from school principals, teachers and librarians. We hope that wish list will provide you, our generous donors, with shopping ideas.
This past year has been extremely rewarding because we have a number of new volunteers in Punta Gorda (put link here to volunteer page), and new donors and corporate sponsors like the venerable Brodart Company, a sixty year old world leader in innovative library building world wide (www.brodart.com).
We encourage each and every one of you to stay in touch with us (books@boatersforbooks.org), and with our recipients. Look for email links to individual schools and libraries throughout this web site. They will welcome your dialogue and emails from your young students.
