November 1, 2001. Boaters for Books is delighted to announce that we have a "team" in place in St. Vincent & The Grenadines, to implement our distribution of children's books between the islands of St. Vincent, Bequia, Canouan and Union. Our SVG Boaters for Books effort is being spearheaded by Heather Grant, a dynamic Canadian living and working on Union Island as owner/operator of Erika's Marine Service. We encourage cruisers in the Grenadines to visit Heather when on Union Island, and to email their friends and family to begin collecting books for our 2002 SVG mission.
Heather will be working through the SVG Ministry of Education, which is currently organizing itself to properly distribute our donations of children's books next year.
We are concluding our efforts in Grenada with this December's shipment of more than 20 cases of books by our transport sponsor, Tropical Shipping, Inc. of Ft. Lauderdale. Cruisers everywhere can be proud of the efforts of so many to bring the gift of reading to the children of the Caribbean.
