The English speaking island of Dominica, located just south of French Guadeloupe, is lush in natural resources and abundant in enthusiasm. Recently, however, and particularly after a series of destructive earth quakes, Dominica is financially challenged. For more than six years Boaters for Books has been serving the needs of primary and secondary schools in Dominica, a project facilitated by The Lions’ Club of Dominica.
The photo galleries you see linked to this page are glimpses into the lives and libraries of the children we love in Dominica. Looking for ideas for Dominica? Daphney Magliore, principal of Portsmouth Secondary School is looking for world history, math and science books for grades 7-12. Wesley Primary and Temple SDA Primary schools would love stories on tape appropriate for youngsters. For more book ideas please reference our “Wish List” page.
