THE ISLAND OF CARRIACOU in the GRENADINES

[Child Waits for Books]

The island of Carriacou and its little sister Petite Martinique lay some twenty four miles northeast of the mainland of Grenada. These two beautiful English speaking islands are nestled among the smaller islands of the Grenadines that belong to the country of St. Vincent.

Carriacou is home base to BFB cruising directors Melodye and John Pompa, who live aboard their sailboat (SV Second Millenium) in Tyrrel Bay. Melodye and John sail the islands and visit the schools and libraries served by Boaters for Books. Together with other cruisers and Carriacou land based volunteers, Melodye and John are building libraries in five primary schools, two secondary schools and one junior college. Those schools and reports from down island are highlighted in this section.
